Sofía Martínez-Villar /Flute and piccolo

Sofía MartínezBorn in Tordesillas (Valladolid). She has a degree in Musicology (Universidad de Valladolid) and a degree in flute (Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca). She has a PhD in Analysis and Theory of Arts (Universidad de Barcelona).

She studied flute with Magdalena Martinez for four years. She has won numerous grants from the Junta de Castilla y Leon and the M.E.C to attend international technique and interpretation courses with the following teachers: Mª Antonia Rodríguez, Maxance Larrieu, Jaime Martín, Istvan Matuz y Vicenç Prats and for musicology courses with Charles Rosen, Alberto Basso, Joel Lester, Walter Levin y Carl Schachter.

As a performer she has won the Jóvenes en concierto contest held by the Junta de Castilla y Leon on three occasions (1998, 1999 and 2000) and the Injuve Circuit (2001). She was part of the Symphonic Orchestra of the Salamanca Music Conservatoire, directed by Lutz Köhler and several chamber and symphonic orchestras. In recent years her interest has lain mainly in chamber music as member of several formations including Quartet de Flautas, a duo with pianists Gonzalo Manzanares and Ángel Soler, with whom she has held numerous concerts and recitals.

She teaches Ear Training and Repertoire for flute at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC, Conservatoire) since 2002.
